Jonesboro Man Sentenced to 48 Years For Sexual Assault

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced today that Gregory F. McCord (DOB 05-20-1961), formerly of 200 East Heacock in Jonesboro has been sentenced to forty-eight (48) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for sexually abusing and taking lewd photographs of a young family member in 2006 and 2007.  In July of 2010 a Union County jury found McCord guilty of one (1) Count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class X Felony, four (4) Counts of Criminal Sexual Assault, all Class 1 Felonies, one (1) Count of Child Pornography, a Class 3 Felony, and eight (8) Counts of Unlawful Possession of Weapons by Felon, all Class 3 Felonies. Presiding Judge Mark Boie handed down the sentence Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

McCord was arrested in December 2007 as the Jonesboro Police Department and Illinois State Police executed a search warrant at his home.  The case was prosecuted by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office with assistance from the Union County State’s Attorney’s Office.
