Four Men Charged with Multiple Church Burglaries in Union County

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced the following have been charged in connection with church burglaries occurring in Union County in December 2014 and January 2015:

Garret L. Green (DOB 3/12/1993) of Creal Springs, Illinois has been indicted by the Union County Grand Jury on two (2) counts of Burglary, both Class 1 Felonies and two (2) counts of Theft, both Class 4 Felonies.  The Judge set bail at fifty thousand dollars ($50,000.00) with 10% bond to apply.

Aaron J. Henderson (DOB 3/13/1992) of Marion, Illinois has been indicted by the Union County Grand Jury on four (4) counts of Burglary, all Class 1 Felonies, one (1) count of Theft, a Class 2 Felony and one (1) count of Theft, a Class 4 Felony.  The Judge set bail at seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000.00) with 10% bond to apply.

Kaleb S. Terry (DOB 1/18/1995) of Marion, Illinois has been indicted by the Union County Grand Jury on six (6) counts of Burglary, all Class 1 Felonies, one (1) count of Theft, a Class 2 Felony and three (3) counts of Theft, all Class 4 Felonies.  The Judge set bail at one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) with 10% bond to apply.

George B. K. Smith (DOB 7/4/1992) of Herrin, Illinois has been indicted by the Union County Grand Jury on six (6) counts of Burglary, all Class 1 Felonies, one (1) count of Theft, a Class 2 Felony and three (3) counts of Theft, all Class 4 Felonies.  The Judge set bail at one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) with 10% bond to apply.

The four were charged as part of an investigation regarding the burglary of numerous churches in Union County including Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro, First Lutheran Church in Dongola and United Missionary Baptist Church, New Hope Baptist Church, Ebenezer Hall Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Saratoga Church in rural Union County.  The investigation was conducted by the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Anna Police and the Marion Police Department.  The Marion Police Department apprehended the men in January of 2015.  All four men are being held in the Williamson County Jail in Marion, Illinois.

The Union County State’s Attorney’s Office reminds the public that charges are not evidence of guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
