Five Sentenced to Prison

Five Sentenced to Prison

Union County State’s Attorney Tyler R. Edmonds announced the following sentences to the Illinois Department of Corrections:

Koby S. Broadway (DOB: 06/18/1996) of Anna, Illinois has been sentenced to four (4) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one (1) count of Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Firearm (Class 2 Felony) and one (1) count of Residential Burglary (Class 1 Felony).  He will also serve a two (2) year Mandatory Supervised Release.  Broadway was indicted on the firearms offense after an investigation by the Illinois State Police found he took a pistol from a vehicle parked at a Dongola residence in July 2016.  Broadway was indicted on the Residential Burglary charge after an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office showed he burglarized a residence near Ware in May 2017.

Cody J. Shulda (DOB: 12/11/1992) of Johnston City, Illinois has been sentenced to thirty (30) months in the Illinois Department of Corrections after admitting to a Petition to Revoke Probation for the original offense of Possession of Burglary Tools (Class 4 Felony) and will serve a period one (1) year Mandatory Supervised Release.  Shulda was arrested in October 2016 following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.  Shulda was found to be in possession of burglary tools including night vision goggles and crow bars, near a residence in rural Cobden.  He was resentenced to prison after failing to comply with the terms of his probation.

Larry Steven Negrete (DOB: 11/08/1969) of Anna, Illinois has been sentenced to two (2) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one (1) count of Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 3 Felony) and after admitting to a Petition to Revoke Probation for the original offense of Unlawful Purchase of Methamphetamine Precursors (Class 4 Felony).  Negrete was charged in both cases following investigations by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

James Douglas Cable (DOB: 09/27/1971) of Indiana has been sentenced to eighteen (18) months in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Obstructing Justice (Class 4 Felony) and will serve a one (1) year Mandatory Supervised Release.  Cable furnished false information to a Union County Sheriff’s Deputy during a February 2018 investigation.

Matthew Eric Otten (DOB: 03/18/1985) of Jonesboro, Illinois was sentenced to thirty (30) months in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one (1) count of Aggravated Identity Theft (Class 3 Felony) and will serve a one (1) year Mandatory Supervised Release.  Otten was arrested in April 2018 following an investigation by the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
